Lace and Boots

Standard

This outfit was a mess to pick out.  I actually had something completely different in mind and then I changed the shoes…and then when I changed the shoes, I changed the pants to match…and then when I changed the pants I changed the shirt….3 times…. Haha, its kind of like that store When You Give a Mouse a Cookie, only it happened in my closet, and I didn’t have time for a nap after. boooo

I bought these boots last fall, and though I love them, I’ve been having a hard time styling them.  It’s been difficult to wear these boots wile still remaining feminine, so I had the brilliant idea to add in my lace shirt!  Voila!

Edward Scissor Hands Meets Flying Squirrel

Standard

K, i feel like I have a love hate relationship with this shirt. I love it, but it’s very strange to me.  When I hold up my arms i look like a flying squirrel, but when i keep them down i feel like Edward Scissorhands.  It’s one of those shirts that I always am on the verge of getting rid of, but never actually do. After seeing the pics, I’m still unsure…chances are it will stay put for a while.

Orange is the New Black

Standard

Orange is the new black…I just watched the series and have decided that it was a good motto for my wardrobe this fall too.  For some reason, I’ve been really getting into the color that I had never really liked before.  Hey, whatever works!

I added this ruffle tank with my burnt orange sweater from J.Crew along with my beads.

My Novel Idea – Turning a Dress Into a Shirt

Standard

I was having a hard time figuring out what I wanted to wear and saw this sun dress and decided to give it one last whirl around by turning it into a shirt by adding a skirt.  Same dress, but looks TOTALLY different in the two outfits.

Sisterhood of the Traveling Shirt

Standard

About 8 years ago one of my oldest friends gave me this shirt as a hand me down.  I wore it for a couple of years, eventually got sick of it and gave it to my sister.  Then last weekend my sister let me shuffle through a bag of things that she was getting rid of and I came across this shirt and remembered how much I liked and took it back. haha.  It sure has made its’ rounds so far…we’ll have to see where it is in a few years. LOL

These earrings were a gift from a gal who I purchased some jewelry from on Etsy!  How sweet!  Check out Anne Emma Jewelry on Etsy.com HERE

A Steal of a Deal!

Standard

I bought this skirt a few months ago in hopes that it would fit me one day…and it finally does! yes!!  Mainly I love this skirt for two reasons:  1. the neon color and 2. (and more importantly) it cost me $1.17, when it was originally $50!  Whatta steal!  I’m still working on what top to wear it with, but chose a solid tank for today.

I got this lace dress at the Limited a few months ago and wore it to my brother’s graduation.  Even before that, I bought these cowboy boots and have been waiting for the perfect time to wear them with this dress and figured, what better time than today?  I paired the dress with a brown belt, and some gold jewelry.  I also wore a denim jacket because my office is frequently about 50 degrees.  Love it!  I’m already excited to wear this outfit again!

Pink and Orange

Standard

Last year I has created an outfit with my magenta skinnies and a peachy tank and I really liked it.  This year I saw someone wearing pink skinnies and an orange cardigan in the cafeteria at work and I thought – ok I must do that – THAT is a great color combo.  The cream shirt I’m wearing is pretty much worthless because I can only wear it with a scarf – why?  because I have a stain right front and center, just like most of my other white/cream tops.  One would think I would get rid of this and get a new one, but I’m sure that it would happen with my new shirt too, so I may as well just save my money.

I will definitely be wearing this outfit again, only next time, I’ll wear my leopard flats and my beloved leopard scarf.

I don’t have much today because my outfit does not surpass ordinary.  But, I did just get this tee at the Gap on sale and I love it paired with my elephant necklace.  Normally this is a long necklace, but I jerry rigged this puppy up to make it short today.  I thought an elephant necklace would be a perfect pair for a tribal print shirt.  What do you think?

Sorry there’s not more pics! I had a track workout before work this morning and only had time to snap a quick shot!

Boring Boring Boring…

Standard

Meh!  This week I’m just not into any of the outfits I picked out!! Just having one of those weeks where I’m standing in my packed-to-the-gills walk-in closet saying to myself “I have NOTHING to wear!!!”.  Somewhere in the depths of my soul I know this isn’t really the case, but for whatever reason I just couldn’t put together one half way decent outfit!  I promise you that I’ll come up with some better stuff next week…but until then, this is what I’ve got:  Mint skinnies (mild obsession right now), a black and white colorblocked chiffon bouse, and black and silver accessories with black wedges.  Totally boring, which is not my typical style…I’m in a rut! wah!

please disregard the constipated look on my face - it was really sunny and it was difficult to keep my eyes open while trying to explain to my mom where my feet were...

Celebrity Copy

Standard

Jessica Alba Today’s outfit is a copy cat fro man outfit that I saw on Jessica Alba online.  I recently purchased a denim jacket and I loveeee it!  I never really had one before because I’m highly against the old Canadian Tuxedo, aka Denim on Denim…but now that I wear colored skinnies almost everyday I can get a lot of use out of a jean jacket.  Additionally, I like it because I have very very light “wind-breaker” types of jackets, and winter jackets…nothing really in between for the spring.  So this jacket is perfect.

This outfit was pretty easy to put together because I had all the items, and is great for a casual day at work.  I would also maybe wear this to an outdoor event like a picnic since I”m wearing tennis shoes and have the jacket which I could take off if it was too warm.

Minty Fresh

Standard

I’ve been DYING for a pair of mint skinnies forever…ok for about 6 weeks, but in my book that is forever!  I’ve tried on multiple pairs, and none have given me the fit (or the price) that I’ve wanted.  Just when I thought I was going to miss the boat I found this pair on super clearance at LOFT and snagged them immediately.  To create this outfit I was inspired by an outfit I wore this fall and “springed” it up.  Basically the theme is mint, tan, and stripes.  I like the final product.

Tuck in a Peplum Top for a New Look!

Standard

Happy Monday!  I actually hate when people say that, but I feel that way this morning because I picked out all my outfits for this week already so I feel like I’m one step ahead of the game!  The Limited opened a new store in Evergreen Walk, in South Windsor, right across the street from LOFT, which is one of my favorite stores, so my Mom, my sister and I went a checked it out a few weeks ago.  I ended up getting this shirt, which is white and tan woven material with a black bow on it.  I’m IN LOVE with it, but I haven’t worn it yet.  Last week was still a bit cold, but this week is going to be great weather so it’s definitely time to break out all the skirts.  Now if we could just get it to be a bit warmer so I can wear my opened toed shoes!!

I paired the skirt with my black lace peplum shirt, which I’ve worn a bunch since I got it last month (great purchase!), only this time I tucked it in, which was a trick I never would have thought of on my own (I actually got the idea from J’s Everyday).  For accessories, I did tan and black two-toned pumps, and a matching earring/necklace set.  Normally I wouldn’t go matchy-matchy with the jewelry, but I thought it was ok in this instance.

Yea I Dont Know

Standard

I’m not sure about this outfit, but today I feel like I have NOTHING TO WEAR!  I guess I do better when I line up my outfits for the week ahead of time.  I’m just that type of organized weirdo that likes to know what is going to happen.  Actually, even when I line up my outfits for the week usually on the day that I wear them I make some slight changes! I like seeing it, thinking about it, and then making tweaks where necessary when I think of them as an after fact.  Next week will be better!

4.5.13

A Little Prep In My Step

Standard

The weather right now is annoying because it looks ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS outside and looks like it should be really warm, like I should be able to wear fun spring clothes, but no.  It’s still freezing.  The temp actually isn’t that bad, but the wind, man, that gets ya!  So today I’m going a slightly different route than I normally do and went 100% Prep.  Magenta skinnies, argyle cardi, and pearls, pearls, pearls for necklace, bracelet, and earrings.  It’s fun to have a diverse wardrobe-I never know whats going to happen in the morning! haha

I know what you’re thinking….Leggings again?!  Yes, Leggings again…I had a hard time this week with getting my outfits togethre, since it was a short week and I was tired.  so I opted for (yet another) pair of leggings and heavy weight anthropology sweater that I borrowed from my sister.  Super easy and I love it.

Cozy Snowy Morning

Standard

It snowed last night – only about a half inch, but still, that’s enough for me to bundle up tight!  Today I went with tan and white striped waffle thermal, light skinnies, green hat/scarf, silver accessories (except my watch) and my snow boots.  I especially love this hat because it was free!  At my job we have this thing called the “swap shop*”.  Its a place where employees can leave and take stuff.  It’s basically a free tag sale.  You bring something in that you don’t want, and take someone else’s crap that they don’t want.  It follows the whole “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure” mentality, and I LOVE it!

Lets Try This Again

Standard

Last week I tried to wear my new green statement necklace and failed miserably.  I felt like I was a leprechaun all day long.  Today I tried to play down the green a little bit with my new green shoes instead of the green pants.  I’ve been in love with shoes likes this and have seen so many cute outfits styled with them, but I couldn’t get myself to spend the money on something that so trendy.  You better bet that when I randomly came across these at Target on clearance for under $10 I was all over it!  I think I’m liking this look much better than my first try.  I paired it with my trusty old blue skinnies, my white lace top and gold jewelry.

Under the Weather

Standard

At 45 degrees, its pretty clammy and warm for January, but I’ll take it.  Its warm, and cloudy and just kind of  blah today, which matches up perfectly with how I feel, but since I have a busy day ahead of me, I just need to get over it.  I had a really cute outfit picked out to wear today, but given how I feel I went with something COMPLETELY opposite.  I went from heels, a skirt, and a blouse to boots (which you may notice I’ve been obsessed with lately), skinnies, and a cotton top.  Go figure! haha  I’m glad I’ve decided to post my outfits though, because without that motivation I’d be wearing yoga pants and a hoodie…its going to be one of those days!

Austin Inspired

Standard

So today I’m missing Austin, TX – as I just got back from a way-too-short vacation!  So, I decided to wear my burnt orange  skinny cords, paired with a pair of flat boots, leg warmers, a striped shirt, and tan blazer with blue/turquoise accents.  When I got these pants in the fall, I thought I could ONLY wear it in the fall.  I would wear it similarly to this, but “less heavy” without the scarf/gloves/boots…so this is my winterized version.

Lace and Pearls…and Shopping with the Girls!!

When I wore this outfit I was on my way to go outlet shopping…so I wanted to wear comfy shoes that are easy on and off, and nothing with buttons etc on top so again, its easy on and off…I was planning on buying a bunch of things after all!!  I got this lacy top around thanksgiving and just love it because I can dress it up or down and I love the way it looks with the “messy pearls”.
